Half Moon Bay “Artichoke Invitational”


Here is a summary of this past Saturday’s Half Moon Bay “Artichoke” Cross Country Invitational that was held on the 2.33 miles cross country course on the Half Moon Bay High School campus.

In the Varsity boys race, Leland finished in 22nd place out of 27 teams with a score of 577 points.

Sr. Nathan Lee was our top finisher in this race as he finished in 29th place with a time of 13:02 and was 4 places from winning a Top 25 individual medal. Sr. Alex Kim finished in 118th place with a time of 14:35. He was followed by Jr. Zachary Fuselier who placed 167th with a time of 15:37. Jr. Aviv Yerselove finished next for Leland with a time of 16:08 to place 186th. Jr. Jacob Hsueh was our 5th scoring runner as he finished in 217th place with a time of 18:27. Jr. Tiany Gao placed 223rd with a time of 19:05 and Jr. Jonanthan Stichnoth finished in 226th place with a time of 19:30.

Our Sophomore Boys team finished in 6th place with a score of 215points out of 25 scoring teams in their race. The top Leland time for the whole day came in the Sophomore boys race as Sophomore, Aditiya Garg ran a very good time of 12:46 to finish in 2nd place in his race. Finishing second for Leland was Tyler Orth who finished tied for 25th place with a time of 14:04. Tyler won an individual medal as the top 25 finishers in the race received individual medals. Finishing in 3rd place for our team and in 34th in the race was Patrick Guzman with a time of 14:11.Our 4th and 5th scoring runners were Dean Gonzalez who was 83rd with a time of 15:18 and in 5th place and our finals scoring was Owen Widgery as he finished in 114th place with a time of 15:50. Our 6th and 7th runners in this race were; Jeonghan Moon who finished in134th place with a time of 16:26 and in 7th was Gidion Tan who finished in 52nd place  with a time of 16:46.

Rounding out the rest of our sophomore runners in the sophomore race was Taylor Orth finished in 8th for our team with 164th place with a time of 16:57. Nathan Tewari was our 9th runner with a time of 17:32 and finished in 178th place. He was followed by Kyle Au as he finished in 186th place with a time of 17:44. Munqu Chung followed by placing 187th with a time of 17:46. Sebastian Zambada placed 196th with a time of 18:07 and in 235th place was sophomore Wolfe Earhart with a time of 22:48.

In the Freshmen Boys race, our Leland team finished in 8th place out of 13 complete teams. Our team was led by Jasper Gruhl who finished in 6th place in the race with a very good time of 13:53. The top 25 finishers received medals in this race, so Jasper won a medal for his performance. In 2nd place for our team was Ishayu Manral as he finished in 27th place with a very good time of 15:07 and just missed a medal by 2 places. Our 3rd runner was Aaron Jao he finished in 41st place with a time of 15:42. In 91st place was our 4th runner Mohamed Foryoh with a time of 17:09. Our 5th and final top 5 scoring runner on our team was David Ho with a time of 18:36 and finished in 124th place. Rocco DePalma was our 6th finisher as he ran 19:23 to finish in 129th place.

In the varsity girls race we only had 2 girls running and they were Senior, Maile Shinmoto who was our top finisher in the race with a time of 16:13 to finish in 40th place and Junior, Ariadev Hada fished in 156th place with a time of 25:58.

The top time of the day out of all of our Leland girls team was posted by sophomore, Nao Sawaguchi who ran a time of 15:53 to finish in 4th place in her race. Nao won an individual 4th place medal. Second for our team and finishing in 54th place was sophomore Sayuri Lokeshwar with a time of 18:56. She was followed by sophomore Rhea Bambawale who finished in 99th place with a time of 20:54. Allison Gao was our 4th runner as she finished in 115th place with a time of 21:51. Soph, Ella Keselman finished next in 117th place with a time of 21:53.
